The Belfast Argentine Tango Society (BATS) was formed in June 2007 as a "not for personal profit" organisation to promote Argentine Tango. Our main activities are to organise classes and workshops and to hold milongas. We aim to use authentic teachers from Argentina or teachers who have proven experience in teaching Argentine tango.

NEW MILONGA STARTING
La Milonga Que Faltaba – in a joint venture between John Hoey and
Nikos Kyriakidis, this Milonga will be on Friday 5th October, in SHAFTESBURY BOWLING CLUB, 20a Annadale Avenue,
from 8pm to midnight. Price £5.
This is not a BATS event but another great opportunity to strut your stuff on the dance floor. The reason we go to classes and practice is to dance socially. So whether you are a beginner or have been dancing for some time, get yourself to the Shaftesbury on Oct 5.

Titango Festival This Weekend
There’s still some
places on the free Tango Taster Classes
on Friday/Saturday/Sunday if you have any friends or colleagues who want to try
Tango – but we’re slightly over balanced on followers in the taster classes, so
try to persuade some men.

SOME GUIDANCE FOR TANGO CLASSES
First, everyone, the world over, usually thinks progressing to a higher level of class makes them a better dancer – whereas it is usually better to master the basics first (walk before you try to run).
Second, there’s no harm in also doing the level below “your” level – doing a second class doesn’t cost much more and will speed up your learning.
Finally, having said there’s no rules, here’s some “soft” guidelines (but you need to find your own realistic level).
Intermediate – 9.30-10.30. 18 months+ of classes. Most steps are straight forward to you and you are looking for complex movements and concepts such as musicality.

Beginners – 7-8pm Perhaps 1-6 months of classes, although some will stay longer. It won’t be full of people in their first class. You are learning the basic eight, ochos, giros, etc.
Improvers – 8.15-9.15 Perhaps 6-18months of classes. You can do the basic eight, ochos, giro without even thinking about them, but more complex steps like ganchos and sacadas are harder.Monday, 9 April 2012
